Geological Fieldwork in Kula

The fieldwork season has started! I planned one-month of geological fieldwork to construct the foundation of my research and have a better understanding of the geometry of the sedimentary units on top of the metamorphic basement. Despite the hot weather in Kula, the mission is accomplished successfully with the help of a MSc student from my chair group. There are quite exciting discoveries on this field campaign, and yet new questions to be answered!

Additionally, samples from each rock unit were collected to examine their mineralogical composition, lithological differences and texture patterns to construct a detailed facies analysis. Those samples are sent to the thin section preparation facility of Istanbul Technical University to prepare them for analysis under microscope.
